5 Steps to Achieving Your Financial Goals

We may be a couple weeks into 2019 already, but it’s not too late to plan for a successful year ahead! As I recently shared, I’m all about smarter money management this year — and with the help of Regions Bank, member FDIC, I’m sharing a simple 5-point plan to setting and achieving your financial goals in 2019. Hello, adulting!

  1. Start with the basics: First and foremost – what are you saving up for? Reducing debt, saving for retirement, updating your budget? If it’s a specific savings goal you have in mind, split that cost into 12 and save an equal amount each month to start building towards that goal.
  2. Plan for a rainy day: Start building an emergency fund so you’re ready for unexpected expenses that might set you back.
  3. Get flexible: Just like unforeseen expenses can come up, so can unexpected opportunities to invest. Don’t kick yourself for working around your savings plan, as long as you’re spending and investing mindfully.
  4. Get support from your network: If your friends and family know that you’re saving towards something, they can serve as great cheerleaders to keep you in line…your friends might even be more willing to do more wine nights in than expensive drinks out on the town!
  5. Work with a professional: As you build your savings, you may qualify for offers from your bank that will work to your advantage in an even bigger way! Don’t be scared to pop in to your bank to speak with a specialist about your goals. They can provide the insights you need and didn’t previously know about. And the best part is, most of the time, their advice is free!

Still unsure of how to prep for long term financial goals, here’s a handy checklist to get you thinking. Don’t forget to visit Regions Next Step for more financial tools and educational resources to help you achieve your financial goals in 2019!
