3 Tips to High/Low Dressing

Pulling together the perfect outfit doesn’t mean that you have to break the bank! Whether you’re into browsing vintage finds, sales or affordable brands, there are so many ways to put a look together without maxing out your credit card. While I don’t necessarily have the time or patience for thrifting, one of my favorite ways to save on my wardrobe pieces is by shopping in unexpected places that are already incorporated into my daily routine: high-street mall brands, Etsy for one-of-a-kind finds… and Target, in between errand running! Mixed in with some of my investment pieces, and you have the perfect high/low look for every day wear 🙂

You guys already know that I’m a huge fan of the Who What Wear collection at Target, and it’s been one of my go-tos for a long time… I picked up my top from there a few weeks ago, and I’ve been wearing it non-stop since! Just a simple black tank that goes with anything… but the back-button detail and bows on the straps makes it more of a statement piece than your average summer tank.

I always take my denim very seriously… and even though I have a huge collection of them, it’s the ones that are well-made that I tend to reach for more often. 7 For All Mankind makes amazing jeans, of course, and I look at them as more of an investment piece because they skew a towards the higher end on the price scale and they’re definitely made to last.

And of course to top it off, I love a statement purse… but the best part about summer is that you don’t need a designer bag to look stylish! Fashion LOVES basket bags right now, and they’re never too expensive. This net bag doubles as my grocery bag during the week, and it’s a great way to do my little part in being more environmentally-conscious, instead of using tons of plastic bags every day.

My 3 Tips to High/Low Dressing

Only invest in classic pieces that you know you’ll get a LOT of wear out of. There’s a reason people spend on purses more than clothes… you can make a bag work for multiple outfits!
If you’re spending on clothes, the devil is in the details — opt for natural material (cotton, wool, silk) and avoid synthetics because they’re usually not worth the money… and they won’t last as long.
If you’re looking to hop on a trend (e.g. tiny sunglasses, cold-shoulder tops, loud prints), always purchase them at a lower price point. Chances are, you’ll only be rocking them for a season or two… so there’s no point in throwing down lots of money for them!
