3 Ways to Step Out of Your Comfort Zone

Personal growth is a constant that we all strive for every day in our own unique ways — whether it be in our personal relationships, professional development or even physical changes. I’m a strong believer in setting goals for myself. That said, I can definitely admit that when when my goals seem too lofty and out-of-reach, it’s really easy to be discouraged and not even do anything at all… we’ve all been there at one point in our lives or the other, right? At the end of the day, we are our own biggest critics, and when we want to improve ourselves it’s easy to get unrealistic and want to see those changes happen yesterday, but it’s just not practical… or kind to yourself. It’s all about the little steps you take towards becoming comfortable outside your comfort zone that eventually add up to hit your overall goals.

Today I’m partnering with Carmex Comfort Care™ to share three simple ways that you can start expanding out of your comfort zone, to move towards your goals of becoming a person that you are proud of — because when you’re comfortable outside your comfort zone, you feel free to be more adventurous and more authentically “you”!

1. Know Thyself

Life is busy, and sometimes we can get so caught up in work and other people that we start to neglect our own selves. To become a better person, we need to be honest about who we currently are. A couple years back, I came across 36 Questions To Fall In Love, and while it’s designed for couples, I found myself going through the questions and really thinking about how I would respond to them myself. Some of the questions are REALLY hard, but the first step to self-love is self-acceptance and knowing yourself, so I highly recommend giving the article a read and a hard think whenever you have the time! Some other ideas for ways that you can start creating “me” time to get to know yourself:

  • Take a solo trip to a new location
  • Start weekly meditation sessions
  • Try a new natural beauty look that involves less makeup
  • Move your evening runs from your indoor treadmill to an outside park to grab some fresh air and appreciate your surroundings

2. Try A New Hobby

Everyone knows at least one person who speaks multiple languages, plays an instrument and/or started a really cool business from the ground up. You can totally be that person too! It was my search for a hobby and creative outlet that led me to start blogging, and I’m really glad that I did because every day is different, and it’s a big step away from my professional life that takes up most of my weekdays.

This isn’t to say that every new hobby has always worked for me — I tried learning the guitar a few years ago, only to discover that finger coordination isn’t exactly my strong suit LOL! So if anyone wants to hear a very janky, off-beat and off-key rendition of “Kiss Me“, I’m your girl!

3. Volunteer in Your Community

Did you know that volunteering is good for your health, and lends to your overall happiness and well-being? In addition to helping the less-privileged in and around your community, engaging in a good cause that you’re passionate about gives you purpose and helps you feel better about yourself as well. Depending on the group you join, you’re also bound to meet new people (or animals!) and expand your social circle to start including more positive, influential people who you can share your experiences and grow together with.[/one_half_last]

Our lips declare our most audacious goals, and reveal our deepest fears. When you step outside your comfort zone, what crosses your lips can be more honest — more authentically you. Today, Carmex is challenging you to start expanding outside your comfort zone, so leave a comment below to share how you’re taking on the challenge. I can’t wait to read your tips!
