A Very Chic Spin on Holiday Home Decor and Party Hosting
home1 year ago
I can’t believe I FINALLY hosted my first-ever holiday party at home, and I absolutely loved how everything turned out!
Prepping your living space for hosting during the holidays can be somewhat of a challenge — especially when you live the smaller spaces that New York City has to offer, so I thought I’d share how I got my apartment in shape to host a few friends over drinks, small bites and banter. I made a Speyside Punch with Macallan 12, and my cheeseboards were thoughtfully designed by AmazingGrazeNYC.
I went with a super classic Christmas aesthetic this year, playing off my apartment’s warm tones with holiday-appropriate greenery. Everything I used is linked down below, along with some alternative options that convey the same type of vibe!
No mantle? No problem. I used mini Command Hooks for a foolproof and hidden way to hang stockings on my living room cabinetry, but alternate options include pretty stocking holders that you can sit on the edge of furniture, or even a blanket ladder for the ultimate cozy effect sans fireplace. You can mount it horizontally to create quick shelving or lean it against the wall for a farmhouse vibe. Either way, it’s a great and easy way to create a beautiful focal point for your stockings!

Hosting, much like life, is all about striking a balance. Fragile, luxury serveware always looks beautiful… but of course, you run the risk of things dropping and breaking. On the other hand, no-fuss disposable serveware runs the isk of looking a little tacky — so I did a little bit of both! Larger items that would be on display and likely make their way into my friend’s IG stories (like my punch bowl and ladle) were gorgeous investment pieces made of glass, while the plates and cups were simple disposable ones I got off Amazon. Garlands are a great way to bring texture and color to the display… and for some old school glamour, gold candlestick holders at varying heights.

Last but not least, and arguably the pièce de résistance in every home during the holidays: the Christmas tree. Whether it’s tradition to chop down your own, or you have a faux one in the attic that you bring down once a year – it’s all about how you dress it! I’m obsessed with the skirt I got from Lulu & Georgia this year, and the Tiktok-viral bow trend was perfectly timed to bring some pretty, femme energy to this year’s decor. It’s a fun and easy (once you get the hang of it!) DIY to do together with loved ones — just grab your preferred ribbon and get to tying. Velvet and satin finishes give off the perfect classic vibe to bring it all together.
