The Skinny on Skinny Jeans
coco's style9 years ago
Denim trends are so fickle, constantly switching every season — from clean-cut to distressed… slim-fits to baggy flares… low-rise to high-rise… and the list goes on. You can clearly see that when it comes to your jeans, there are no rules, so let’s play by our own game!
The current message floating through the street style echo chamber is that skinny jeans are “out” — but I’m here to tell you that you definitely shouldn’t toss yours just yet! If “mom jeans” can make a comeback, then your favorite skinnies will definitely live to see another day, and here’s how to keep your skinny jeans looking just as current as they were four year years ago!
- Keep Things Interesting
Think of your skinny jeans as a blank canvas. They’re such a classic staple, that you can afford to push the envelope on the other elements of your outfit in any way that best represents your style. For me, “keeping things interesting” means pairing my jeans with other classic pieces that still have that unique twist and warrant a double-take: I’ve been obsessed with super low-scoop tees, western-style belts and lace-up shoes — bet you can’t find a better pair of pants than skinny jeans that’ll go well with all of these pieces at once! - Watch Your Proportions
When it comes to slim-fit pants, I always check to be sure that the bottom hem grazes my ankles and the waistline hits right below my belly-button for a flattering fit. I’m 5’9″ though, so finding jeans that are actually long enough to graze my ankles is almost impossible. In those cases, I just fold up the bottom hem of my jeans for cropped look. - Comfort Is Everything
One of the big reasons street style is migrating towards loose denim silhouettes is for the sake of comfort, but skinny jeans can be just as forgiving if you find the right ones! A good combination of denim and stretch is what you should look for, and they should make you feel like you can run around in your jeans all day! - Save Your Money!
Skinny jeans can be found anywhere these days — there’s no need to shell out hundreds of dollars just to find the right pair. Instead, spend your money on items that complement your jeans to create the perfect outfit. My RayBan Clubmaster sunglasses are the newest addition to ever-growing collection of shades, and they balance out my Gap Factory skinny jeans both in price and overall aesthetic.
