Perfect Never with Reebok
health8 years ago
When it comes to social media and being a person on the Internet, sometimes it can be so easy to get lost in comparing your current life to what you wish it was. There are the fashion mavens telling you what to wear even though most of the time it’s beyond your budget, there are the fitness gurus telling you how to eat and work out when all you really want is a cheeseburger… and of course there are the picturesque Martha Stewart types who just so happen to always have the perfect home with the gold and marble finishes that we all probably have all over our Pinterest boards
It’s undeniable, as women, we are constantly told that we need to strive to perfection… even though it’s actually not the least bit realistic. This season, Reebok has launched a new message for girls like us with their #PerfectNever campaign, because being perfect never gets the opportunity to be better… and at the end of the day being better is all we need to strive for! Here are 3 things that I’ve been doing over the past few weeks and months to work on bettering my instead of mentally kicking myself for not being “perfect”:
Pure Barre
If you follow me on Instagram and Snapchat (@cocobassey), you have probably seen a snap here and there of me heading into a Pure Barre session. For those of you who don’t know what barre is, think Pilates-meets-Ballet: lots of low-impact, isometric movements that target and tone the major “problem areas” that most women have… all while burning fat and elongating muscles. For me, Barre has been the perfect complement to my regular cardio sessions, and a great way to work on my flexibility — Fun fact: I can’t touch my toes, and as much as I’d like to blame that on my uber long legs, I actually really hate how inflexible I am. Pure Barre has been my weekly way to getting a good stretch in, and I can definitely see a difference in my flexibility these days!
Hydrating
Water, water, water — the number one cure to your skincare and healthcare problems. Water helps to flush out toxins, aid digestion and keep your skin hydrated. I used to think that it was so weird when people attributed their weight loss to simply adding more water in their diet, but it’s SO true guys! We all need water to keep our bodies functioning more efficiently.
One of my favorite ways of keeping my body hydrated has been by carrying around one of those super stylish S’well bottles. They keep my water ice cold all day (or my coffee piping hot!), and I don’t have to waste money buying disposable plastic bottles when I’m on the go. Healthy AND eco-friendly for the win!
Self-Care
As most of you already know, I’m not a full-time blogger — I spend 40 hours a week living and working in the corporate world, and as much as I love the stability of a dual income, sometimes sitting in front of a computer all day keeps me from remembering to do the most basic things for myself, such as logging off to grab a couple minutes of fresh air and spend time with loved ones… or COMPLETELY switching off and heading out of town for a vacation. This has become even more of an issue for me as a blogger, since my “vacations” have also become work opportunities for to create travel-related content whenever I’m in a new city.
Some of you may have noticed that my blog was super light on rolling out new content last month, and that was because my mom was in town, visiting from Nigeria. It was really important to me to take time off both work and my blog to spend ample time with her while she was around, since I don’t get to see her as often as I wish I could… and those weeks I spent offline were priceless. So yeah, guys, take that vacation you’ve been putting off — you deserve it!
