When it’s blazing hot outside, is there anything more tempting than slipping into your favorite maxi-dress on a summer day? Didn’t think so.
I’ve had my maxi-dresses on HEAVY rotation this summer, because they’re literally the lowest effort pieces that still help me feel and look dressed up even on my laziest days! I was talking to my friend the other day about this gorgeous A.L.C. maxi dress that I’m wearing in the photos, and she told me I was so lucky I could wear it because I’m tall. Ummm….🚨PAUSE🚨 First of all, maxi-dresses are for every height and every body type! When it comes to fashion, you can make anything work as long as you feel good, and you know what details, cuts and silhouettes work best for your body. If you’re still unconvinced that longer dresses are right for you, and not sure how to style your maxi dress — here are four of my styling tips that I swear by when shopping for, or wearing, maxi-dresses.
1. look for unique details
the one-shoulder silhouette and under-bust cut out detailing on this dress makes it such a chic summer dress! keep an eye out for elevated, unique details like these in your maxi dresses to keep from veering too far into the frumpy mumu territory.shop
2. add a belt to accentuate your figure
3. effortless footwear to complete the look
when it comes to maxi-dresses, let your shoes take a backseat! this is your time to rock your most comfortable pair of shoes guilt-free because your dress will do all the talking. these shoes have been a favorite of mine ever since i got them!shop
4. accessorize, accessorize, accessorize!
i’m partial to a pair of statement earrings, but maxi-dresses always make for a great excuse to fully lean into a fashion moment with your accessories. whether it’s a fun headband, a unique tote or statement earrings like these — have fun with your accessories to add interest to your dress!shop
Hope these tips helped you figure out how to style your maxi dress this summer! p.s. If you’re looking for more little black dresses that you can wear this summer, I did a round-up of some of my favorite day to night LBDs right here! »
