Can’t beat the heat? Try these style tips for looking your best in hot and humid weather.
When it comes to looking chic, heat and humidity are definitely among the most formidable of opponents — but don’t give up! There are rules for dressing in hot and humid weather, the same way there are for layering up in the cold.
Today, I’m breaking down four major tips that will keep you looking cool, calm, and collected… even during a heatwave. Hopefully these tricks and picks will inspire your next great warm weather outfit, but if you’re looking just to re-up on some basics, there are great brands like Quince and Talbots that have dedicated collections committed to the use of summer-friendly silhouettes and fabrics.
1. pick humid-friendly fabrics
breathable fabrics like cotton and linen are your best friend when it comes to dressing for the heat and humidity, as synthetic fabrics are more likely to trap heat and cling to your body.
2. experiment with cuts + silhouettes
showing a little skin through some cutouts is a good cheat code for keeping cool, but if you’re not into showing extra skin, stick with silhouettes that fall away from your body.
3. stick to light-colored clothing
lighter colors have the ability to bounce the heat off of them as opposed to absorbing and trapping it. good thing white and cream shades are trending!
4. opt for breathable footwear
with so much of our body heat trying to escape via our feet, we’ve got to let them breathe on hot and humid days.
