I know I mentioned that experimenting with more color in my wardrobe is one of my 2020 style resolutions… but we’ve still got 4 more days in 2019, so let’s talk about mu current favorite: tonal dressing with muted neutrals and earth tones.
Tonal dressing – dressing from head-to-toe in multiple shades and tones from the same color family – has always been a favored look in fashion, from the runways, to street style… and on our Instagram feeds! It can look super chic and sophisticated when done right. So how do you nail the look without it looking too much?
For me, the secret to tonal dressing is all about mixing other elements since I can’t mix colors. Think mixed textures (silks, wool, leather) and mixed patterns (plaid, stripes and even polka dots) to break things up and keep the look interesting. My look is all from Nordstrom, and you guys probably recognize this sweater that I can’t stop wearing! The super soft knit is the perfect contrast to my tailored checkered pants, and the black accessories are a great way to bring more structure into the whole look.
What are your thoughts on tonal dressing? Are you more of a color lover, or do you tend to opt for monochromatic looks too? xx
