5 Fashion Trends I'm Buying Into, Thanks to TikTok
shopping4 years ago
It feels like just yesterday that we were all homebound, baking banana bread, making Dalgona coffee and trying (or failing?) to master the Savage dance in our bedrooms… thanks to the copious amount of time spent feeding our TikTok addiction while bored at home 😅
As our quarantine days begin to fall behind us, we may have ditched our aspirational dreams of becoming a pro barista, baker, or Megan thee Stallion’s next backup dancer… but TikTok is going stronger than ever! I still find myself mindlessly scrolling through the app for entertainment — and even though I’m not an active user, the quick-digest video format of the app makes for such a useful way to stay on top of what’s trending in beauty, music, current events and fashion. I may or may not have been influenced to tap into some of these TikTok fashion trends, and I’m sharing my favorites below!
1. vivienne westwood pearl choker
Simple in it’s design, but recognizable with it’s emblematic Saturn orb pendant, these pearl necklaces have taken the TikTok fashion-loving world by a firm hold. I love wearing mine on it’s own, but they look incredible layered with the rest of your favorite necklaces too! (p.s. you can find affordable dupes of this choker necklace on Etsy too)
2. corset tops
If you haven’t already planned your summer debut outfit — here’s where to start! Corset tops shape and enhance your figure to show off your curves, and you’ll never feel sexier in one of these. Try your corset top with your favorite jeans for a chic summer look.
3. cottagecore accessories
Last year turned a lot of us into little nature lovers, searching for joie de vivre through daily walks out in nature, or even gardening! These new hobbies started to translate into fashion through the emergence of the cottagecore trend — and the look is still a Gen Z favorite in 2021.
4. baguette bags
Minimal, classic and versatile — the baguette bag is a must-have in any fashion girl’s wardrobe. This bag silhouette comes in a very wide price range, so you can always find one that works for your wardrobe and budget!
5. Y2K-inspired fashion
I truly never thought I’d see the day that my high school style would come back in fashion in a serious way, but here we are — fashion is truly cyclical! While Gen-Z is gobbling Y2K style up like it’s something new, all I can think of are the late nights my friends and I used to sneak out to house parties and clubs when we were 16. Perhaps this summer is the perfect time to relive those memories, with quarantine restrictions being fully lifted in NYC 🥳
Whew, running through these TikTok fashion trends is making me think I need to get back into using the app now! Are you an avid TikToker? Leave your username in a comment below, I’d love to connect with you guys on there! You can find me @cocobassey. xx
